Pedestrian Hit By Light Rail

A 17 year old was struck by a light rail train at 10am this morning. The boy was transported to UC Davis Medical center with a 8" laceration, broken femur, and injured abdomen. He is in serious, but stable condition.

Meg Whitman Coming Thursday

Fischer the Bear Dies

Fischer, a 17-year old black bear at the Folsom Zoo, had to be euthanized after his quality of life deteriorated. Fischer was well known for helping test out "bear-proof" garbage cans. Most bears live to about 10 years old in the wild.

An Oakland man was arrested for extortion after finding a lost chihuahua who wandered off when its owner was filling up at a gas station. 31-year-old Adonison Gunther demanded $200 for the safe return of the dog. Folsom Police apprehended the man and the dog is unhurt.

Casa Ramos, Pinkberry Coming

The building formerly occupied by Applebee's looks to be occupied soon - Casa Ramos, a small chain based out of Yreka, has a sign up saying it is coming soon. The start date is unknown. Find out more about Casa Ramos at http://www.casaramos.net. Palladio Mall also announced today that Pinkberry's coming in a few months. Yum!

Water Restrictions Lifted

Folsom will have full water allocations this year, which means residents are no longer obligated to water only 3 days a week. Water conservation is still urged, especially with landscaping - it accounts for 70% of water usage in the summer.

Traffic Barriers Coming Down

"Traffic calming" barriers, in place in historic Folsom since the Folsom Dam Road closure, are coming down. Folsom City Council approved 4-1 to remove diverters at Riley & Mormon, Sutter & Scott, and Riley & Figueroa.

Stolen Loot Found on Craigslist

A Folsom family preparing to replace $2200 in stolen property searched Craigslist and discovered their stolen goods. Folsom Police met the dummy crooks and after a footchase, ran them down and recovered some of the stolen goods. The 17 year old didn't learn from this and was arrested a second time, selling a mobile phone.

Sutter Street in "Gawky" Stage

The Bee's Rick Kushman visited Sutter Street recently, and observed that it's in a bit of a "gawky" stage, tho odd stage between adolescence and maturity. Kushman was impressed by all the cool places to hang out, especially at night. What's to come? A historic district pub crawl.

City Looking to Cut 50 Jobs

Further budget cuts will likely hit the city in the next fiscal year. 50 jobs (31 occupied) are tabbed, including 8 in the fire department and 6 in the police department. Fortunately a number of them are currently vacant. Library services would be cut to 5 days a week.

One Dead in Truck-SUV Crash

The driver of a truck was killed after he apparently ran a stop sign and crashed into an SUV carrying a woman and two young children. The woman and children were also taken to hospital, but thankfully, their injuries were not life-threatening.

50 Years of the Folsom Rodeo

The Folsom Rodeo is celebrating 50 years. While Folsom has grown to a large suburban city, hometown events like the rodeo have endured the test of time. A colorful history marks 50 years, including bulls getting loose in the parking lot! We'll be helping commemorate the rodeo in the coming months.

Fashion Show to Benefit Zoo

State Sells Trail Land

The State of California has sold 26 acres of undeveloped land along Lake Natoma, which will be developed in to a multi-story commercial complex. The land in the $45M sale currently runs along the American River Bike Trail, and is directly across the street from the Iron Point Light Rail station.

Guard Admits Smuggling Phones, Drugs

40-year-old Domingo Garcia has plead guilty to smuggling in marijuana and cell phones in to prisoners at Folsom Prison in exchange for cash from inmates. He faces up to one year in jail.
