    Stolen Loot Found on Craigslist

    A Folsom family preparing to replace $2200 in stolen property searched Craigslist and discovered their stolen goods. Folsom Police met the dummy crooks and after a footchase, ran them down and recovered some of the stolen goods. The 17 year old didn't learn from this and was arrested a second time, selling a mobile phone.

    City Looking to Cut 50 Jobs

    Further budget cuts will likely hit the city in the next fiscal year. 50 jobs (31 occupied) are tabbed, including 8 in the fire department and 6 in the police department. Fortunately a number of them are currently vacant. Library services would be cut to 5 days a week.

    One Dead in Truck-SUV Crash

    The driver of a truck was killed after he apparently ran a stop sign and crashed into an SUV carrying a woman and two young children. The woman and children were also taken to hospital, but thankfully, their injuries were not life-threatening.

    Folsom PD Named in Taser Lawsuit

    Folsom and members of its police force have been named in a lawsuit involving a taser; Michael Daniels of Orangevale was arrested following a St Patrick's Day altercation in 2009, and claims the taser used against him had cut a tendon and part of a nerve in his wrist.

    Collision Outside City Slickers Sports Bar

    A collision involving a truck and pedestrian outside the City Slickers sports bar left the pedestrian dead and the driver of the truck hospitalized. The pedestrian may have had a prior argument with the driver, assaulting him.

    Police Equine Unit Saved

    Recent cutbacks in budgets have caused many police forces to drop their mounted patrol units and sell their horses. Through a partnership with the Grace Foundation, Folsom Police are able to keep their horses at a local stable, in exchange for appearances with their educational programs.

    Found Body ID'd

    A decomposed body recently found by a few kids was finally identified. 44-year-old Earl Barrett Jr. was a frequent visitor of a Briggs Ranch resident and likely died of natural causes. Barrett was a drifter who would often disappear without notice.

    Teen Turns Himself In

    A Citrus Heights teen was arrested for auto theft and burglary, after he turned himself in to Folsom Police ad Ed Michell Park. The boy was a passenger in a stolen Honda Civic that police had unsuccessfully sought after a short pursuit on December 30.

    Cop Injured in Wipeout

    A motorcycle officer is recovering from injuries sustained on the 26th when making a U-turn in pursuit of a driver caught on their cell phone. The 10-year veteran sustained a broken leg and clavicle, a dislocated thumb and a concussion. The driver got away.

    Folsom Police are offering free rides home tonight if you'd partaken in a bit too much cheer for the new year. Just call (916) 355-7231 and they will take you home to Folsom, Granite Bay, El Dorado Hills, Rancho Cordova, Orangevale or Fair Oaks. The free service is from 9pm - 2:30am.

    The investigation of a woman's death on Creekside Drive has been upgraded to a homicide investigation and police are requesting assistance from the public.

    Suspicious Death on Creekside

    A 64 year-old woman was found dead in an apartment on Creekside Drive, Folsom. She suffered injuries that appeared consistent with an assault. Folsom Police encourages anyone with information regarding this suspicious death to notify the department at (916) 355-7230 or contact WeTip at (800) 78-CRIME.

    Toy Drive on Saturday

    Santa will collect toy donations at the Folsom Police Department’s first drive-though Toy Drop-Off from 9-2 pm, Saturday Dec. 12. Donations of new, unwrapped toys for children 12 & under will be accepted at the Drop-Off in the parking lot of the Police Station, 46 Natoma St. Donations may also be dropped off anytime before the 17th at the Police Station, City Hall, Senior & Arts Center and Folsom’s main Fire Station.

    Kids Find Dead Body

    Three 11-year old children located a badly decomposed dead body in bushes near Blue Ravine and East Natoma. Now Folsom Police are Investigating but can't yet tell the age or sex. The death is being ruled suspicious due to the location of the body.

    Church Trailer Stolen

    New Song Church recently reported that their 16-foot long trailer had been stolen, with estimated losses at $25,000. After some alert residents spotted the crime in progress, the bandits were eventually found and arrested a few days later. Janette Ansted, Ronald Logston, and Angela Linari were all arrested in connection to the crime.

    Folsom Safest in Sac County

    FBI statistics show that Folsom is still the safest place to live and work, not only in California, but it is one of the safest places in the whole of the US. Part of that is due to the people who live and work here and part is due to the Folsom Police Department and the way they partner with the community and other law enforcement agencies.

    $56,000 Cocaine Bust

    A Sacramento man was caught with rock cocaine on Swinton Drive. Kevin Lamar Nash was arrested for manufacturing it in a Folsom home; police found a half pound of cocaine in rock form, estimated at $56,000 street value.

    Alcohol Sting Busts 5

    5 people were arrested in an alcohol sting Thursday night; 4 for providing alcohol to minors, and 1 to selling to an intoxicated man. Discount Food & Liquor has now had 2 such incidents within 6 months.

    Burglar Busted!

    An Antelope man was arrested early Monday morning in the process of burglarizing a North Folsom home. Vadim Zhurko, 29, was caught red-handed and was in possession of a loaded handgun. A diligent Folsom resident tipped off police about a suspicious vehicle after responding to a Folsom PD reverse-911 call.

    Circle K Clerk Stabs Customer

    We all know the Customer is Not Always Right, but it seems more than a little extreme to stab the customer. Samirrah Walton, 23 years old, of Folsom was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon for stabbing a customer after an altercation when the syrup was out.

    Busted! Marijuana Plants Found

    California Highway Patrol helicopter crew discovers 100 marijuana plants close to the bike trail near Glenn. This is the third such pot farm found in Folsom in the last 2 years; the street value is estimated at $76,000. Video interview.

    Murder-Suicide on Wales

    Reports of three gunshots came and screaming from a condo on Wales Drive Thursday Night, following a domestic disturbance. Police eventually entered the unit, and discovered 2 dead. Initial reports indicate that a woman was murdered and the assailant committed suicide.

    Former officers Carl Siegler and Brian Unden were fired following a Chico sting operation, after the officers allegedly acted inappropriately with college-age women. The officers want their jobs back, back pay, and legal costs.

    Han Family Seeks Answers

    Family and friends of Joseph Han are hoping to answer questions surrounding his death on Easter Sunday. Han was shot after police were called in to assist, after Han was acting erraticly in his home. The family has hired John Burns, the attorney on the Oakland BART shooting case.

    Folsom Cop Looking at DUI, Battery

    9-year officer Evan Fardanesh is looking at a DUI and battery charges after an incident at a Blue Ravine restaurant. An individual had placed the off-duty officer under citizen's arrest, and he was later charged with driving under the influence. His blood-alcohol level was .19, more than twice the legal limit.

    Folsom Police are on the lookout for Benjamin Furness Schultz, 26, who was last known living on John Henry Circle. He is wanted on two felony no-bail arrest warrants for suspicion of possessing a controlled substance for sale and possessing a firearm by a convicted felon.     Standoff Ends Peacefully

    A robbery suspect was arrested on Marble Canyon Drive, after a standoff in which the suspect refused to leave the house. Scott Hamilton, 22, surrendered peacefully at 7:10 PM.

    New Contract for Folsom PD

    FPOA (Folsom Police Officers Association) agreed to a new contract; to help out with the budget crisis, police officers agreed to one unpaid furloughed day every other month, as well as to forgo cost of living increases through June 30, 2010.

    Playstation Bandits Caught

    Area Costco's have been getting a rash of thefts of Playstation 3 video games systems lately. 2 men would steal the systems and exit in a back door to an awaiting car. This time Costco employees followed the suspects and they were arrested by Folsom Police.

    The Folsom Police Canine Officer’s Association has launched FPDK9.com, to assist in the medical care of retired K9’s, furnish death benefits to all Folsom Police K9’s, and to educate & promote the use of Police K9’s in the community.     1 Dead in Officer-Involved Shooting

    Folsom Police shot and killed 23-year old Joseph Han after he approached them with an 8-inch knife. Family of the man called police after he locked himself in the bedroom and wasn't acting himself. Police tasered the man twice before shooting him.

    Lake Natoma Body ID'd

    The identity of the man found floating in Folsom lake has been identified. Timothy Allan Hecht, 54, of Fair Oaks, was found about 15 feet from shore in Lake Natoma on Wednesday. Cause of death is still unknown.

    Body Found in Lake Natoma

    Human remains were spotted out in Lake Natoma by a bicyclist this morning; Police have confirmed that it is a body and fished out a 54-year old man. No word yet on how long the body has been there. The Telegraph reports of blood on the door of a nearby business and apparent car damage in the parking lot, but it appears the two incidents are unrelated.

    Rock-Throwing Thieves

    Folsom Police are investigating a couple "smash & grab" burglaries that happened January 30 and February 1 to a couple of businesses off of Iron Point. Flat-screen TV's were taken. 2 suspects took off in a a dark-colored, early to mid-1990s Dodge Dakota extended-cab pickup.     DUI, Officer Injury

    A Folsom police officer was injured during a routine traffic stop on Friday night when a drunk driver plowed in to the back of the squad car, pinning the officer between 2 cars. 55-year old Jennifer Brown was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

    Two Folsom Police vehicles were on a traffic stop in the 600 block of Riley Street. A drunk driver crashed into the rear vehicle, pinning a Police Officer bwtween the two vehicles.

    If you see a plethora of emergency vehicles in Thursday in the Willow Creek and Flower Drive area, do not be alarmed. Multiple agencies will be conducting a mock hazardous materials spill. Multiple agencies are doing similar events across the nation.

    Bad Cop... No Donut?

    In what will probably go down as one of the most unusual stories of 2008, a Folsom Police Officer has turned himself in after an accusation of stealing cooking oil. $350 of the stuff mysteriously disappeared fom the Sacramento Rendering Co. Sgt. John Landahl is currently on administrative leave.

    Chase Ends in Arrest of Cop

    An off-duty Citrus Heights police officer led Folsom police on a high speed motorcycle chase that lasted 41 miles, several accidents, and even an injured officer. James Fraser was eventually arrested in El Dorado County and charged with felony evading and assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer.

    Man Arrested on $14K Gas Theft

    Folsom Police arrested Michael Patrick Woulfe, 39, on charges for theft, after he was caught in an elaborate gas theft scheme. Woulfe was a former employee who stole the book of authorized managers and would line up cars at a local station and fill them up.

    The 2 men wanted for a February assault are now in police custody. After seeing his face on the news (MyFolsom.com?), Michael Carillo turned himself in. Several viewers also identified Carillo. Angelo Phillips, of Sacramento, was also arrested.

    Local firefighters, police officers, and everyday residents were honored last week for bravery and heroism. Honorees included a citizen who pulled a man from his burning vehicle, and a police officer who made a big drug bust in the city.

    Police Seek Help With Robbery Suspects

    On May 1st, 2008 Folsom Police Officers responded to a '911' call regarding a residential robbery that had just occurred in the 200 block of Sierra Oak Court. The 24 year old female victim reported having been approached in front of her residence by a male suspect armed with a handgun who announced his intent to rob the victim.

    The suspect with the handgun was described as an African-American male, in his mid-20's, approximately 5'10" with a thin build. His head was shaved and he had no facial hair. The second suspect was an African-American female in her mid to late 20's with a medium build. She wore her hair in a ponytail.

    4 ATM Thieves Arrested

    Folsom Police arrested four people for conspiracy and robbery after using a replica handgun to rob a victim while he was using a local ATM. Michelle Tarpley, 18, of Rancho Cordova, Seth Briggs, 20 years-old of North Highlands, Guillermo Santana, 27 years-old of Sacramento, and Steven Tamberg, 23 years-old of Rancho Cordova, were all arrested for suspicion of robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

    Overturned Big Rig on 50

    Police and news vehicles are currently cleaning up an overturned big rig that has blocked eastbound US50 at Prairie City. The big rig was right by Prairie City Road and traffic has been backed up since 8 am to around Hazel. The accident is expected to be backup up until at least 11:15.

    False Alarm - No Bomb

    Folsom High parents and motorists got a bit of a scare today as a reported suspicious device on the Prairie City / Hwy 50 overpass brought in scores of police. The device was a traffic sensor. This incident does not appear to be connected with the pipe bomb case earlier this week.

    'Active Shooter' Training at FLC

    If you see police activity at Folsom Lake College, do not worry - they are participating in a simulated training exercise, including gunshots (presumably blanks) and explosions. The training is to help simulate the chaos of an urban attack. The training will be going on today and Friday.

    The Folsom Police Officers Association is holding a raffle to win a new motorcycle, care of MDK Motorsports.     The NAACP and family of Andre Anderson are demanding answers regarding the death of Andre Anderson. The coroner's cause of death may take several months, and police are not commenting on the matter until a cause of death is identified. The Anderson family wishes to be in more contact with investigators about the case.

    Death of Folsom Teen Shocks Folsom

    The body of Andre Anderson, a Folsom High junior, was found hanging from a tree in Big Foot park. Police Investigation is continuing, but the family feels it may have been an accidental death. Foul play has been ruled out.

    3 Found Dead in Folsom Home

    Three people have been found dead at 112 Wembley Court. An employee of Folsom Prison called when 2 co-workers did not show up for work; Folsom Police report that Laurence Moll shot and killed his long-time girlfriend, Bonnie Lathum, as well as her daughter, Teresa Contreras, before turning the gun on himself.

    Tragedy on Iron Point

    A 53-year old Shingle Springs woman was killed on Saturday, as her car was struck by a Dodge Stealth, by the Folsom Outlets. Police say 2 teens were racing along Iron Point, and have been arrested for vehicular manslaughter. The victim, Susan McNew, leaves behind a husband and 2 children.

    Armed Robbery at Folsom Bank

    Bank of America on Blue Ravine was robbed at gunpoint on Tuesday. The suspect was 5'6", reddish goatee and a husky build. Anyone who has any information is urged to call the police at 351-3340.

    Police are looking for a Nissan Altima with a Washington plate #263NFW. A robbery at Folsom Lake Bowl and a robbery on Folsom-Auburn Road a few minutes later were both reported with this plate number early Friday morning. Any information to these crimes, please call 355-7231.

    Blocking Tracks Will Cost $200

    Light Rail is about to begin service in Folsom, and Folsom Police will now begin enforcing laws against stopping on train tracks. Drivers cited for failing to stop at designated lines will be fined $200, since it is considered a red-light violation. Passenger service begins October 15, but operators will be training before then. Story in the Sacramento Bee.

    A 9-year old girl was sexually assaulted at an apartment complex on Creekside Drive Sunday night. The suspect is white, early 20s, 5'9", medium build, with a shaved head and blonde beard.     Parolee Nabbed After Chase

    Patrick Kelly, a 27-year old on his way to a treatment facility near Folsom Prison, escaped out of a transport van earlier today, and ended up at Orange Blossom Circle, where he asked to use a resident's phone. Resident Teresa Stanley became suspicious and fled to a neighbor's house, while Kelly stole her Toyota. Police later found and arrested him in Fair Oaks.     Speed Limit Changes

    Sibley Street and Bidwell Street now have 30 mph speed limits - a raise on Sibley, and a decrease on Bidwell. The reasoning? So police can use radar. Under state law, police cannot use radar on streets that are not legally qualified as residential streets due to the average speeds of motorists. Now they can, meaning they can enforce the speed limit more easily. Details in the Bee.

    Mercy Folsom Seeks Helicopter Spot

    Folsom is growing, and one of the needed changes to accomodate this growth is emergency facilities. Currently, when a helicopter landing is warranted at Mercy Folsom, it stops an intersection, snarling traffic and police resources. Jim Pelley is hosting a fundraising dinner on December 8, and he hopes to raise the $100,000 needed for the landing spot. Story in the Bee.

    2 Killed in Car/Motorcycle Accident

    2 20-year olds were killed in a car vs. motorcycle accident on Thursday. Jordan Tyler Barkey of Rancho Cordova and Carlene Baker of Cameron Park were both struck by a BMW at Briggs Ranch Rd. and East Natoma Blvd. Police are investigating whether street racing was a factor in the accident.     9/11 Remembrance Planned

    The City of Folsom's Police and Fire Departments will hold their third annual memorial ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 11. The ceremony will be held at 48 Natoma St., directly in front of the former fire station adjacent to City Hall. The event includes a flag-raising, 21-gun salute and speeches by dignitaries. The public is invited to attend and participate in the remembrance ceremony.

    Dam to Re-Open?

    If given sufficient security to the Folsom Dam, the US Bureau of Reclamation may open up the Folsom Dam Road during peak commute hours. Police Chief Sam Spiegel is already designing a security plan with local and federal law enforcement in hopes of opening the road.     Saddle Up!

    Folsom's finest will be adding 2 new vehicles to its police squad, horses to be exact. Red and Rocky will be the latest additions, one owned by a police officer, and the other donated to the city. They will patrol areas such as Thursday Night Market, the Rodeo, parades, and school events. More in the Bee.

    Traffic Calming Not Well Received By Motorists

    The city's attempts at diverting traffic away from residential areas has failed, at least in the eyes of motorists. Drivers are routinely ignoring "no right turn" areas, more than 1 in 4 are breaking the law. Partially to blame are police officers for failing to issue citations, however one thing's for sure, traffic in Old Folsom is a mess. More in the Telegraph.     10 More Police Officers Coming to Folsom

    Thanks in part to a $750,000 grant from the federal government, Folsom will be able to add 10 more police officers to its staff, which is greatly needed with the expanding population of Folsom. In 1998, Folsom PD Response time was under 6 minutes, but has risen to almost 10 minutes in 2001. More in the Bee.

    Pipe Bomb Explodes at Broadstone Plaza

    Teens are said to be involved in a pipe bomb explosion in the Broadstone Marketplace behind Old Navy. On Monday afternoon, a homemade bomb exploded in a dumpster, causing a large hole. Police blocked off the center just to make sure there were no more explosives. There were no reported injuries. More on theKCRAChannel.com.

    Folsom's City Budget Includes New Positions

    Despite the economic problems of the state, the city of Folsom is benefitting from increased sales tax, water rates, sewer rates, garbage rates, and property taxes. With $12 million more to use than last year, the city is able to build a city library and downtown parking structure, and hire more employees. This includes 5 new police officers, 5 new crime analysts, and additional funds for the Fire Department. More is in the Bee.

    Budget Workshop Today @ City Hall

    The 2003-2004 preliminary budget for the city of Folsom will be discussed today (Wednesday, June 4) at City Hall, and is open to the public. The $142 million budget includes some new funding for areas such as parks, the library project, and police & fire departments. City Manager Martha Lofgren feels todays' budget is a "truly 'good news' budget proposal". More is in the Telegraph.

    Running Around in an Orange Jumpsuit: Not Funny

    Inspired by the hit TV show "Jackass", a couple of Loomis teens decided to pull a prank, by running around handcuffed in an orange jumpsuit by a rural road. A citizen called the police and soon a full-scale manhunt was ordered, complete with a lockdown of Folsom Prison, a police helicopter, patrol cars, and police dogs. The teens soon realized the err of their ways and ditched the jumpsuit and confessed to a parent. Police were not amused. More is in the Bee, KTVU-2

    Dam Road Closure Costing City $500,000 a Year

    Now that people have started settling in on old habits, the closure of the Dam Road is starting to hit the city financially. Folsom is now paying $10,000 more a week in police and traffic control, not to mention the impact on small businesses. Traffic on alternate routes are up 75%, and a 36% raise in accidents. The city is looking at a traffic consulting firm to see if they can find ways to alleviate these issues, but until another bridge is built, it is likely that Folsomites will have to endure a lot of traffic during peak commute hours.     Folsom Teen Held in Intricate AOL Scam

    Folsom teenager Jason Scott Kriscenski, 18, was arrested on April 3 after police found out he was stealing credit card information from AOL customers, buying gift cards, and then selling them on EBay. The teen created a pop-up window mimicing AOL, saying that it was time for them to renew their membership, and that they needed to give him his credit card information. The teenager was charged with 2 felonies - theft of credit card account information and unlawful use of card or account information. More is in today's Bee.

    Mundy Murder Trial to Begin in June

    San Quentin parolee Robert Mundy will go on trial for 2nd-degree murder of Folsom music teacher Aaron Farahmand on June 19. Mundy was evading police in a high-speed chase throughout Folsom, where he hit and killed Farahmand on Riley Street. The defense will try and spin the fact that the Folsom police officer who was chasing him was inexperienced. Mundy was driving with a blood-alcohol level of .26 at the time, more than 3 times the legal limit. More is in the Bee.

    Home Invader Sought By Folsom PD

    Folsom Police are looking for a 25-30 year old male, who had broken in to a California Hills home, and attacked a 25-year old woman with a small hammer.     Folsom Police to Start Cracking Down on Motorists

    Strict enforcement areas are now going to be enforced throughout the city of Folsom, as the Folsom Police Department attemps to make the streets a little more safe. Police expect to attack the situation with a three-prong approach - enforcement near school areas, commercial-vehicle violations, as well as all-around compliance of traffic laws. Specific areas of enforcement are on Folsom-Auburn Road from Inwood Road to Oak Avenue, East Natoma Street from Blue Ravine Road to Fargo Way and Blue Ravine from East Natoma to Oak Avenue Parkway.     Papa Roach Video Hits the Net

    Vacaville rock band Papa Roach recently did a video shoot at 3 locations throughout the Sacramento area, including Folsom's Rainbow Bridge. The video 'Time and Time Again' features the band doing an inpromptu rock concert at the locations, with police chasing them from spot to spot.     Police May Examine High-Speed Chase Policy

    The Folsom Police Department is set to review the September 6 incident in which a San Quentin parolee hit and killed a Folsom resident, as a result of a high-speed chase throughout the streets of Folsom. Anne Sedgwick, a businesswoman whose car was also struck during the chase, is questioning the pursuit policy herself.     Folsom Guitar Teacher Killed in Police Chase

    Folsom resident Aaron Farahmand, 28, was an innocent victim of a high-speed police chase on Friday. Police were chasing Robert Mundy, a San Quentin parolee, who was speeding at 70 miles an hour along Riley Street, when Mundy's Ford pickup crashed in to Farahmand's Honda Accord. Farahmand was a very well-loved guitar teacher with 85 students. Donations in Farahmand's memory can be made to The Aaron Farahmand Memorial Fund, c/o Merchants National Bank, P.O.     Folsom Police Department Offers 'Citizen's Academy'

    The Folsom Police have started up a new program to involve citizens in the community - a 12-week course to get an in-depth view of law enforcement. 40 Folsom residents will get the opportunity to take this class, which offers a 2-hour police ride-along, as well as 2 hours at the dispatch center. Residents can lear all about local laws, and get an active view of the typical Folsom PD duties. The Academy starts August 29. More information is in the Bee.

    Folsom Not Immune to Crime - Car Theft on Rise

    Although Folsom is a fairly affluent community, it is not immune to crime. Even cars parked in their driveways pose as potential targets for would-be theives, and leaving them unlocked only invites crime to your neighborhood. Folsom police explain that common sense goes a long ways, from keeping your windows up and valuables out of plain sight to closing your garage doors in the evening.     Folsom High School Hosts 'Every 15 Minutes' DUI Campaign

    Every 15 minutes, someone dies from an alcohol-related car accident.

    Folsom High students participated with Placer County Chaplaincy and local police in a national alcohol awareness project on Wednesday, April 24. A staged car accident was displayed in front of Folsom High, where 2 students "died" and others were badly injured. Some students were called out of class every 15 minutes as one of the 'walking dead' to symbolize the statistics. An assembly was later held at the school where students learned first-hand the effects of driving under the influence.
