I’ve found a new favorite Indian restaurant in Folsom, and it isn’t
a new discovery. I’ve been going to
Taj India for years, but
admittedly I hadn’t been there for quite a while. I just came back
from trying their lunch buffet, and it impressed me enough to want
to tell everyone about it.
The ambiance hasn’t changed much. It’s always been a bit on the dark
& dingy side. Though it does seem lighter now, about the only other
obvious change I noticed in the décor was the widescreen TV playing
the obligatory Bollywood movie. More important to me than ambiance
is a restaurant’s health inspection record, and on this score, Taj
India has done well. As of this writing, its last 4 inspections have
only minor violations.
But the reason I return to any restaurant is the food. Taj India hit
a home run on this visit. The buffet was filled with delicious,
spicy entrees, including many favorite and commonly seen dishes such
as Saag Paneer, Tandoori Chicken, Chana Masala, Chicken Makhani,
Aloo Gobi, and Chicken Curry (there were several other dishes as
well, but I couldn’t memorize them all). A couple of items not
usually offered at buffets were a delicious (but what there wasn’t?)
Chicken Tikka, and fresh, hot Garlic Naan served at our table.
Service was attentive and friendly,. though our empty plates
lingered a few minutes beyond “instantly removed”. There full menu
offers the usual extensive range of dishes, including a few South
Indian specialties. Their prices continue to be the lowest of the 3
Indian restaurants in Folsom (e.g., plain Naan for $1.50, vegetarian
ala carte entrees for $8 and $9).
I’m not afraid to declare Taj India’s buffet, - at least for my
taste - as the best Indian buffet in Folsom. If you haven’t tried it
in a while (or worse yet, ever), then you don’t know what you’re
missing. And while I haven’t ordered from their menu, I suspect it’s
just as great. Highly recommended!
